WHAT IS ASHgrow?

ASHgrow Project

The ASHgrow Project will secure the funding to power our development strategy. ASHgrow is built on the solid foundation of our support groups – the Marist College Ashgrove Foundation, the Old Boys’ Association, the Parents and Friends Association, and Boarder Parent Network.

The key components of the ASHgrow Project are:

The Development Strategy

Fundraising campaigns (including our first Giving Day on Thursday 10 August)

The ASHgrow governance framework.

ASHgrow will attract $15M in donations over five years to substantially fund the Master Plan, ensuring the College continues to centre responsible stewardship and sustainability, while investing in the future of this great College.

ASHgrow governance

ASHgrow is led by the Head of College and administered by the Director of Development. Funds raised by the Project are managed by the Executive Director – Business Services.

All funds donated as part of ASHgrow are paid to the Foundation’s Building Fund and then disbursed to the College for capital works. No funds received by the Foundation are amalgamated into general revenue.

As a registered charity able to provide a tax deduction to donors, the Foundation’s financial records are on the public record and can be found on the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission website.

In addition to the legal, professional, and registration checks and balances applying to the Foundation Board and its decision making, the ASHgrow Project has set its own voluntary reporting standards.

The ASHgrow Project annual report will be published online by the end of May each year. Included in the report will be:

  • An account of all funds donated as part of the ASHgrow Project or related fundraising campaigns in the 12 months to 31 May
  • How those funds were or will be applied, used, or held aside for future components of the Master Plan.

No sponsors will be named in the report. Their generosity will be acknowledged in other ways.

College Governance Framework

Independent schools report to their communities, state and federal governments (funds are contingent upon meeting stringent reporting requirements), and donors. In our case, we also report to Marist Schools Australia (MSA).

Our auditors

College and Foundation financial statements and accounts are audited by VJ Ryan & Co. VJ Ryan provides taxation, business advisory, and audit services for a wide range of clients. Established in 1950, the firm has an outstanding reputation for its accounting and business consulting expertise in a wide range of sectors, including private education.

Role of College Advisory Council

The College Advisory Council is an important component of the College’s governance and accountability framework. Members are invited based on their ability to contribute valuable business and professional advice and guidance.

The Council meets regularly with Head of College, Michael Newman, and continues to offer outstanding advice and counsel.
